A poll conducted by The Post earlier this month had asked Goulburn residents about the choice of the store they would like to see open here.
A total of 439 respondents completed the poll, out of which 43 per cent were keen to see a Big W store open on the main street.
"Council has not had any recent interactions with Big W, but do plan to touch base with them following this survey while acknowledging that they make their decisions on new stores based on a number of factors including location, population and how close a city is to their nearest stores," a Goulburn Mulwaree Council spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, council continues to encourage new businesses to move to Goulburn.
"We do so by advertising the great aspects of our region through a number of mediums including television very recently," the council spokesperson added.
"Staff also works proactively with any business who shows interest in establishing here, and we are proud that our region continues to grow."
There are several empty shops on the main street and locals have shared their preference of stores they would like to see open in the city.
In the 'other options', which took the second spot with 17 per cent of votes, locals preferred stores like Artist Collective, JB HiFi, an escape room for youths and Chemist Warehouse.
The Post had shared store preferences of Officeworks, Spotlight and Harris Scarfe as well which received 15 per cent, 13 per cent and nearly 11 per cent of votes respectively.
