Mr Flood passed away at Goulburn Base Hospital on Sunday, July 11 after residing at Gill Waminda Aged Care facility for several years.
Jim was a descendant of Joseph Flood, a convict who arrived in 1793. He was born in Goulburn in March, 1922 and lived there all his life, except for his time in the Australian Army from 1941 to 1945.
He attended Saint Patrick's College, became an apprentice carpenter to Mr Coffey, a well-known Goulburn builder, and then worked with his father, who built the Farmers and Graziers woolstore, now the Woolworths site in Verner Street.
He worked with his father, also named Jim, for several years before becoming a builder in his own right until he was incapacitated by the effects of his war service.
In his younger days, Jim was also a keen tennis player and Tully Park golfer.
He was a virtual storehouse of Goulburn history and wherever he was in in the city, would be able to tell some story about the location or the people who had lived there.
Unfortunately, Jim was reclusive, and his Goulburn history was only shared with close relatives whose memories of the place were enhanced by his stories.
Those who knew Jim were aware of his sense of humour, which he displayed to family and the staff at Waminda. He was affectionately know as 'the mayor of Waminda.'
Jim is survived by his nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held at Sts Peter and Paul's Old Cathedral on Thursday, July 22 at 11am.
