This weekend, they had a bye, which provided some rest ahead of the last run of games leading into finals. Only five rounds remain in the season, and Goulburn will be eager to extend its lead over ANU, which sits in fifth position.
They currently sit one point ahead of the reigning premiers, who have struggled for their usual dominant form this year.
But a clash against last-placed United on Saturday provides Goulburn with the ideal opportunity to climb further ahead.
United has struggled mightily this season, and currently possesses the lowest tally of goals scored against the second-highest number conceded of any teams in the competition.
Goulburn will aim to extend the wooden-spooners' run of three consecutive losses, and in doing so snap its own streak of middling form.
After a strong start to the year, in which Goulburn secured five wins, three losses, and one draw, the last five rounds have been less kind to the local women.
In that time, they have lost two, drawn two, and won just one match. However, these results do not show the full story. Both of Goulburn's draws came against the first and second-ranked teams, which is indicative of the side's ability to raise its game to match the level of the opposition.
Saturday's game will be followed by matches against the seventh-ranked North Canberra Eagles, sixth-ranked UCHC, second-ranked OCHC, and third-ranked Tuggeranong, before one last bye rounds out the season for Goulburn.
The match between United and Goulburn will take place at the Goulburn Hockey Fields from 1.30pm on Saturday, July 24.
