Goulburn Mulwaree Council recently held a COVID-safe citizenship ceremony, officially welcoming nine new residents into the Goulburn community as Australian citizens.

Mayor Bob Kirk officiated at the ceremony, and was joined by Deputy Mayor Peter Walker for the certificate presentation to each new citizen.
"It was wonderful to be able to still host the citizenship ceremony in these difficult times, and we had a diverse, excited group of new citizens," Mayor Kirk said.

"We are privileged to live in Australia, and in the wonderful Goulburn community, and these ceremonies have always been a reminder of this to me.
"On Tuesday we welcomed new citizens from Malaysia, Bangladesh, England, India, Congo and Nepal. A special shout out also to one of our new staff members here at Goulburn Mulwaree Council who became an Australian citizen today."
Citizens took the oath or affirmation as a pledge, sung the national anthem and were presented certificates and small gifts by Mayor Kirk.
Meanwhile, in January this year, 25 people from 10 different countries were welcomed as citizens in one of the largest contingents in local Australia Day ceremonies.
