Police said a 37-year-old Victorian man was driving north at about 1.30am Wednesday when he noticed fire in his rear-vision mirror. He jumped out just a short time before the load exploded and was not injured. The B-double was carrying paint and a large volume of batteries.
One northbound lane of the highway remains closed but other lanes have re-opened.
Southern Tablelands RFS operations manager Luke Amor said six appliances, comprising 16 personnel, assisted NSW Fire and Rescue.
Meantime, police said a truck had veered off the Federal Highway into bush just past Collector Road at 9.30am Tuesday.
One southbound lane is closed to allow salvage to take place.
Update Wednesday 9.30am
One northbound lane and all southbound lanes of the Hume Highway have reopened in Marulan after a truck fire near George Street overnight.
One northbound lane remains closed, but the northbound diversion through the township has been lifted.
There is a reduced speed limit of 40km/h in place on the open lane past the site.
Motorists should continue to allow extra travel time as traffic is heavier than usual in the area.
Motorists are also advised to exercise caution as a lengthy and complex salvage and clean-up needs to take place.
Emergency services and traffic crews remain at the scene.
Wednesday 7.30am
All northbound lanes of the Hume Highway are closed at Marulan following a truck accident in the early hours of Wednesday.
Live Traffic also reports that one southbound lane is also closed, with traffic being diverted along Brayton Road and George Street.
Emergency services responded at 1.30am to reports a truck was alight along the Highway's northbound lane. It occurred between the southern entrance to Marulan and the railway bridge, before the truck weigh station.

The fire was extinguished by NSW Fire and Rescue. Significant damage was sustained to the truck. The driver was not injured, police said.
It's believed the truck was carrying a large volume of paint and batteries. A clean-up operation is underway.
Officers from The Hume Police District attended and implemented a traffic diversion.
All north bound lanes of the Hume Highway are currently closed. Traffic is being diverted for 3km from George Street through the township of Marulan.
Motorist are urged to avoid the area.
Delays are expected until at least mid-morning.
Inquiries are continuing into fire's cause.
