Guthrie is out of contract at the end of the season, when he will qualify as an unrestricted free agent.

The Cats' best-and-fairest winner is an attractive proposition for rival clubs, given his continued outstanding form and the fact he will only turn 29 this month.

But he is keen to extend his stay at Geelong into a 12th season and beyond.

"I would definitely hope that is the case, I am super committed here," Guthrie said on Thursday.

"We are working towards an outcome at the moment that I think both parties will be really pleased with and I have made a priority to play really good footy and let that (contract) take care of itself.

"It was on my mind a little bit earlier in the year.

"But coming into finals it is much more exciting to think about playing footy and realising a goal and a dream with the team, rather than thinking about a couple of pieces of paper.

"I think we are on the right track."

Guthrie will play his 200th game for Geelong when they host GWS at GMHBA Stadium on Friday night.

The midfielder was controversially named on a wing in the All-Australian team last year, when he finished a superb individual season in the top 10 of the Brownlow Medal count.

Guthrie has been one of Geelong's most consistent and damaging players again this year, averaging career-best figures of 29.9 disposals and 5.4 clearances a game.

The Cats are on a five-match winning streak and are scheduled to play their final three matches at home, as they seek to lock in a top-two position entering the finals.
