Every year, Goulburn Mulwaree Council donates a tree to the schools of the region for National Tree Day and Goulburn High School accepted it with delight.

Planted in the school's quadrangle just outside the canteen by some of the prefects, Goulburn High School principal Yogesh Mani said it was great for council to think of the school.

"We are very appreciative of this donation from council and are looking forward to watching the tree grow over the coming years," Mr Mani said.

"While we were unable to have the mayor on site for the planting, we look forward to welcoming him sometime soon to see how the tree is growing.

"This natural asset is just one of the many things we have done at the school this year to ensure Goulburn High is a welcoming and beautiful place for our students to learn, both in the classroom and outside."

Goulburn Mulwaree Council mayor Bob Kirk said it was a great learning opportunity for the children.

"It's about teaching kids the value of planting and how important they are to the community," Cr Kirk said.

National Tree Day, the country's largest community tree planting and nature protection event, was on Sunday, August 1.

The day aims to see over one million new trees, shrubs and grasses planted each year.

It is a call to action for everyone to put their hands in the earth and give back to their community.

It's a day to venture outdoors and get to know your community, and most importantly, to have fun.
