A man managed to escape his burning home with his granddaughter near Lake Bathurst on Saturday morning.
RFS and NSW Fire and Rescue crews were called to the rural property on Glenoval Road, some 40km southeast of Goulburn at 7am.
Tarago RFS captain Warren Seymour said a man and his young granddaughter were in the relocatable ironclad house when the fire broke out.
The man ran to neighbours to raise the alarm. Tarago Brigade was there within 10 minutes. Mr Seymour said the crew immediately pulled a 4WD away from the blaze.
The structure, which had been erected in the last 12 months, was "well and truly engulfed" when firefighters arrived.
Fifteen personnel extinguished the blaze but the house was destroyed. Paramedics checked the occupant but he was not injured. Police were also on scene.
Detectives are investigating but the fire is not regarded as suspicious.
The owner was preparing the house as a permanent residence
