Residents have been advised to prepare for severe thunderstorms and a wet long weekend. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a severe weather warning for the Southern Tablelands.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Gosford, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Armidale, Orange, Canberra, Goulburn and Tamworth.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue over the long weekend.
For Goulburn on Saturday, October 2 the BoM predicts an 80 per cent chance of rain most likely in the late morning and afternoon. Chance of a thunderstorm in the late morning and afternoon with light winds becoming westerly 15 to 25 km/h in the morning then easing off in the evening. Temperatures expected between 8 and 18 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, October 3 a 40 per cent chance of showers is predicted with westerly winds 20 to 30 km/h tending northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h during the evening.
Monday, October 4 is set to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon or evening.
The State Emergency Service has advised:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
- Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
- Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
- Unplug computers and appliances.
- Avoid using the phone during the storm.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
- Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
