A total of $105,760 has been distributed to three community groups in the Upper Lachlan Shire through the Collector Wind Farm Community Fund.

The grants were assessed by the Collector Wind Farm Community Committee and were approved at a council meeting in August.

Breadalbane Pony Club was given $10,000 to upgrade facilities and equipment. The grant will invest in the development of horse riding/horsemanship for the young members, to provide appropriate coaching and competition and to raise awareness of sportsmanship and citizenship. Activities include training in jumping, cross country, sporting, mounted games, polocrosse, camp drafting, show riding and dressage.
Collector Memorial Hall received $30,260 to create an energy efficient space with a new insulated roof. The project will deliver a more energy efficient space for the community to meet and for the mobile preschool to provide their essential service. It will also improve financial and environmental sustainability of the hall.
Project outcomes:
- The eastern roof the hall has deteriorated and is in need of replacing.
- The western section was replaced in recent years and is in good repair.
- The hall was built by the community in the 1950s and has no insulation under the tin or in the ceiling space.
- Renewing the roof, gutters and down pipes, insulating with a roof blanket, as well as laying insulation batts will make a huge difference to the ambient temperature of the space.
- The hall will be able to be heated and cooled much more efficiently.
- Renewing the eastern gutters and down pipes will ensure that we capture the maximum run off into our tanks.
Collector Oval received $65,500 for a barbecue and shade sail area. The project will increase economic activity for businesses and improve social cohesion by providing group barbecue facilities to the community. Families and groups will be able to easily share a meal with other families or groups.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council general manager Colleen Worthy said the fund provided grants to projects or initiatives that benefit the community within 10km of the wind farm.
"As part of the Collector Wind Farm Community Enhancement Program, Collector Wind Farm sets aside money each year to assist their community," Mrs Worthy said.
"It is very pleasing to see local community groups benefit from this funding in such diverse ways."
