That's exactly how things panned out for Goulburn Solar and it was rewarded with the employer of choice title at the Business 2580 Awards night on Saturday, October 9.
Goulburn Solar managing director Stu Joyce said it was so exciting to be recognised.
"We've been operating for just over 10 years, but have really grown in the past couple," Mr Joyce said.
"The key for us was to create a workspace that encouraged people to enjoy what they were doing.
"The work we do is at the forefront of technology in terms of renewables, but the people are what actually makes our business.
"It's really nice to get acknowledgement of the fact we try to be more than just a workplace."
Lockdown caused Goulburn Solar's showroom to shut down, but some of their services, like their off grid stand alone power systems, were classed as essential services.
Mr Joyce said overall, his business was luckier than most during the tough times.
"From our point of view, I think we've been one of the lucky ones because we've actually grown since the beginning of COVID," he said.
"A lot of people have been buying property around the place and commercially, we picked up a lot of work as well."
"I think we saw a lot more people invest money into their homes, but I've noticed a lot of people have been supporting local a bit more too."
The virtual event attracted over ninety attendees, with more watching the livestream on Facebook.
