A few years ago, his eldest daughter joined him in shaving their heads to raise funds for cancer.

This November, it's his youngest daughter Amy who will join him in getting in the spirit of giving.

The pair will be walking 300,000 steps to raise funds for Ready, Set, Move, a charity that helps kids and adults living with a disability.

Mr Ahearn said the cause was close to his heart.

"My youngest and I were looking to raise some money this time and I work in disability, so this struck a chord with me," he said.

"We both like walking too, so it was up our ally."

"By doing this, we can help many adults and children with disabilities achieve their own goals of experiencing something so many of us take for granted and to experience the freedom of movement through cycling."

The two already walk quite a bit in their daily lives, so 300,000 steps shouldn't be too difficult.

"A lot of it will be done on our day to day walks, but we tend to walk down by the river sometimes too," Mr Ahearn said.

"We live in Bradfordville, so when Amy goes back to school next week, we'll do afternoon walks from there to St Joseph's gate."

Currently sitting at $286, their goal is to raise $1000 for the charity.
