A Goulburn man has been sentenced after punching his school bully in a "serious assault" on the main street.

Riley Maunder, 18, appeared before Goulburn Local Court on November 3. He had previously pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police allege that on July 6 between 8pm and 8.30pm the victim was walking home along Auburn Street when two vehicles drove past. The passengers, including Maunder, yelled at him from the vehicles.
The victim ignored them but they continued doing laps before he yelled back "shut up or pull up and say something".
The vehicles then pulled into parking spaces outside of Target and the passengers got out.
After an argument Maunder, who was recording the incident on his phone, punched the victim in the right jaw, knocking him to the ground and into the gutter.
Police allege the victim was spitting blood from his mouth, had cuts to his knuckles, and pain on both sides of his temple from hitting the concrete.
The victim got to his feet, stood with both hands up and said "I don't want to fight ya, I just want to talk to ya".
Maunder approached the victim and pushed him down the road and said "start walking".
On July 22 police attended Maunder's home. He told police "me being me I punched him and then he landed in the gutter".
Solicitor Scarlett Abernethy said her client had a history with the victim who had bullied him in school.
She told the court Maunder had become a father two weeks ago and had received a "wake up call".
Police prosecutor Sergeant Wright said the offence was a "serious assault".
"The injuries certainly will heal but the victim will have those memories forever," she said.
In sentencing, Magistrate Geraldine Beattie said the police facts were "certainly not pretty reading".
She told the court it would have been a "pretty scary situation to be in".
The magistrate warned Maunder, "no more offending otherwise you won't see your son grow up".
Maunder received a 15-month community corrections order with 200 hours community service.
