A new Goulburn Showgirl is about to be announced, but how did 2020 showgirl Laura Fletcher find the role?
"A really enjoyable experience," she said.
"I got to meet heaps of new people in the agriculture community.
"I'm still in contact with them and can network with them too."
Ms Fletcher wanted to be involved in agriculture her whole life, so it came as no surprise when she told The Post she wanted to stay in the agricultural scene.
"I'll be looking to be a rural ambassador," she said.
"I want to help younger people in general get involved in agriculture because a lot of kids aren't involved with animals during school or they don't live on a farm and miss out on those experiences."
In her application to be showgirl a couple of years ago, she stated that her goal was to bring joy and education to those she visited with the assistance of her animals. She strived to be a positive role model for younger girls and to advocate for women, youth and agriculture.
There wasn't a 2021 showgirl as there was no competition due to COVID, but the 2022 showgirl will be crowned at the Goulburn Show Young Woman presentation and Christmas dinner on Friday, December 3 at the Grace Millsom Function Centre.
Being showgirl is a really rewarding role and Ms Fletcher had advice for her successor.
"Have fun," she said.
"It is a competition, but at the end of the day, it's a really great experience."
