The event will be held at 6pm at the Best Western Plus Hotel on Lagoon Street, and CWA want to let past members and connections of the branch know they are most welcome to attend.
We would like to include past members in our 21st birthday celebration, many of whom we have lost contact with.
If you are a past member and would like to attend, please contact Ann Arthur at annmarthur@bigpond.com or 0412 792 477 for details and to book your place (just $40 including dinner).
The branch held its inaugural meeting in November 1978. By the early 1980s the meeting was rotated between the CWA rooms, The Fireside Inn restaurant and members' homes.
This group celebrated their 10th birthday in October 1988 and sadly within a year decided to close the branch.
A meeting was later held in the CWA rooms on Thursday, August 10, 2000 where it was decided to re-form the Goulburn Evening Branch.
The inaugural meeting of this branch was held at the Worker's Club on August 21, 2000. By the November of the same year, dinner meetings at Cascades Restaurant had begun.
The branch celebrated their 10th birthday at Cascades in August 2010. Since then, the branch has had meetings at the Southern Star Inn and the Blue Plate as well as Cascades.
Past branch presidents have included Maree Horder, Kerry Knowlman, Helen Jordan, Cathy Brewer, Faye Long, Ann Arthur, Julie Street, Margaret Clinton and Karen Pavey. Our current President is Marilyn Manfred.
CWA's current state president Stephanie Stanhope will attend the event.
Over the years the branch has held successful fundraising events. These have included fashion parades, open gardens, high teas, educational nights, guest speaker nights, cake stalls, Devonshire teas at the Goulburn Show and many raffles.
Many thousands of dollars have been donated to many of the CWA charities including the CWA Emergency Fund, as well as local charities including the wig library, grandparents as carers, women's refuges, the Goulburn Base Hospital and others.
Famous words of members from the early days were, "We don't cook". Well, for a branch who doesn't cook members sure have laid out some wonderful spreads and many friendships have been made in the process.
