For Trinity Catholic College, the role has gone to Brayden Crooks and Tess McKenzie who were both delighted with the news.
The two had to make a speech and create a slideshow showcasing photos of themselves in the school community during a year assembly in front of the whole school.
Following that, the school's leadership team consisting of the principal, assistant principal and religious coordinator, interviewed them. The staff and students then voted.
In the application process, Brayden spoke about himself and what he truly believed he would be able to do as a leader while Tess voiced the type of leader she wanted to be.
Brayden, who wants to be a primary school teacher, knew he wanted to captain from a young age.
"I've been around lots of other leaders and really looked up to them, including the previous captains," Brayden said.
"Through the pandemic, they were resilient, were able to keep going and encouraged the rest of the school which was really inspiring.
"When I was in my junior years, I decided that I wanted to be a captain."
Tess, who is thinking about working with kids with a disability after school, applied for the role because she loved the challenge and like Brayden, always knew she wanted to be captain and looked up to the previous captains.
"In primary school, I was in a leadership role," Tess said.
"When I got to Trinity, I wanted to do it again as I had so much fun and it was really thrilling to be a part of the community.
"I also thought the previous captains were so lively, bright, had unique personalities and were so accepting."
Their first job as captains were to promote the school during orientation day before presenting a graduation speech to farewell the year 12 students.
