Remarkably, that's all it takes to make a big difference in the lives of the elderly and Goulburn Meals on Wheels want you to get involved.
The charity makes four runs a day from Monday to Friday, delivering easy fresh and frozen meals to some of the community's most vulnerable.
Service manager Sharon Grummer said they were struggling to fill spots in their volunteer roster after picking up more clients during the 2021 lockdown.
"We're always short of volunteers," she told the Post.
"At the moment we have 79 on our books which sound like quite a lot but out of that we have the Lions Club, Johnson and Sendall solicitors and the Disability Trust, but that includes the volunteers and their carers in that 79 number.
"We have people we rely on all the time because we're short. On Monday we're short two, on Tuesday we're short one, Wednesday is fine because of the Lions, Thursday is ok and Friday we're short two.
"It is a struggle every week."
Ms Grummer said while they are grateful for anyone willing to donate their time, they are especially keen to include more young people in their runs.
"My son actually got a lot of his driving hours for his license done while volunteering,' she explained.
"It would be nice for young ones to come in, the oldies love them."
That interaction has grown in importance with Meals on Wheels no longer simply about ensuring the elderly receive nutritious meals, but also performing vital wellness work.
"Meals on Wheels is more than a meal," she said.
"We go in there, deliver the food but also do a wellness check. We check to see if they are unwell or have had a fall in the night.
"Because we've got the same volunteers, they know when a client isn't well or if something's out of place. We have quite a few clients who don't have any family locally so it's peace of mind for them and their families."
