The cricket was the first and most obvious victim of the weather, and the Goulburn District Cricket Association confirmed this morning on Facebook that no play would go ahead today.
This marks the fifth round of local cricket to be washed out from nine scheduled so far. Similarly, all four of the Speedway's slated events have been called off due to the poor weather.
The future of tomorrow's scheduled Burns Cup fixture is unclear. The GDCA has not yet made a definitive announcement, and will surely be hoping today's good weather will continue and allow Seiffert Oval to dry out.
The next scheduled round of local cricket will take place on January 22, as the weekend of Jan 15 and 16 has been set aside for the Goulburn MG Cup, a T20 knockout tournament with $1,500 in prize money on offer.
Regular cricket will resume the following weekend, with five more rounds to be played before the semi-finals on March 5.
But the second high-profile cancellation was announced on Friday morning, as the Goulburn Speedway called off the event scheduled for tonight.
The Speedway, will now look towards its next fixture on January 22. This is scheduled to feature the GP Midgets Australian Titles, Compact Speedcars, Junior Sedans, Street Stocks, and Legend Cars.
The other major fixture to take place this weekend is the Hockey NSW Open Men's Indoor State Championships. Due to the nature of the event, this has not been impacted by the poor weather and will conclude tomorrow, January 9.
