Event organiser, Graeme Northey, said the club is currently proceeding under the assumption that the event will take place. However, as the state continues to record tens of thousands of new cases per day, he is hoping for the best but readying himself for the worst.
"We don't know what's going to happen, after last year it's hard to plan with confidence, but we're planning to go ahead," Northey said.
Should Trackpower go ahead on Saturday, January 29, as scheduled, Northey expects at least as big a turnout as the roughly 140 competitors who took part last year.
"Beause there were so many cancelled events last year, we're pretty hopeful that our entries are going to be substantial this year, because people just want to get out there and race," he said.
"It was very good last year, maybe even more. The timing's right, it's before the NSW State Championships and things like that, and there's not much on beforehand so we're pretty confident that people will be itching to get out and race."
The Goulburn Cycle Club is no exception to that sentiment, as this year's local racing has often been curtailed by consistent rainfall, and opportunities to get out on the road have been rare.
Though the GCC will likely have a small contingent take part this month, Northey expects them to be competitive nonetheless.
"We're a little bit light on at the moment, we're going through one of those periods," he said.
"But we'll have those that are in the club that do ride track will enter, and we encourage them too because we like to see local participation as well.
"They are usually competitive, particularly in the Masters divisions. We've got riders there that are competitive and have a chance in the wheel races because they're handicapped."
The event will feature some of the top-ranked cyclists in the country, and Northey confirmed that the popular invitational roller derbies will be held once again this year, with both men's and women's divisions available.
As is the case each year, the carnival will be headlined by the Men's and Women's Open Wheel Races, the finals of which will feature the top 16 riders to qualify through the heats.
The Junior Trackpower event will get proceedings underway on the weekend, with the Senior Trackpower to begin mid-afternoon.
Entries are open now and will close the week before the carnival. For more information, please contact the Goulburn Cycle Club through its Facebook page.
