Administered by Yass Valley Council there are several villages and quite a number of localities to be found within the region. These include Binalong and Bowning to the north west, Wee Jasper to the south west, Murrumbateman and Wallaroo to the south, Sutton to the south east, and Gundaroo to the east, along with others.
Ordinary council meetings are held in Yass on the fourth Wednesday of every month (except December and January when it's the third Wednesday) and you can catch up on all the latest news and announcements at yassvalley.nsw.gov.au/our-council/news.
Yass Valley Council is made up of nine elected councillors. Elections are held every four years to determine who those councillors representing the people of Yass Valley will be. The last such election was held on December 4, 2021.
Based on the 2016 Census (the 2021 data wasn't available at the time of writing), there were 16,142 people in Yass Valley LGA, with a median age of 42. 8,318 of the people living in the Yass Valley reported being in the labour force, with 61.5 per cent of those working full-time.
The largest categories of the work those people do are professionals at 20.7 per cent of employed people, with managers a close second at 19.7 per cent. Clerical and admin at 14.9 per cent, technicians and trades at 13 per cent, community and personal service at 10.7 per cent, labourers at 8 percent, sales at 6.5 per cent and machinery operators and drivers at 4.4 per cent made up almost all of the rest.
