West is the President of the Friends of Goulburn Wetlands (FROGS), a member of Goulburn Historic Society and Goulburn Show Society as well as a volunteer for many groups throughout the region.
She was bestowed the honour by Mayor Peter Walker at the Australia Day ceremony in what was a very worthy field of nominees including Gary Worboys, Sylvana Aliffi, Irene Turner, Geoffrey Shepherd, Ian Radford and Maggie Paterson.
West said she was proud to feature alongside her fellow nominees.
"I wasn't actually going to write anything down but a friend said to me 'have you got your speech ready?' she said.
"Goulburn is a wonderful place to live. I want to thank the Australia Day committee and Council for putting on such a nice celebration for everyone in the community to join in.
"All the nominees were as deserving as I am because there's such a range of activities represented.
"I'm interested in gardening, local history, sewing and talking to people so I find activities that suit all my interest and off I go and just do it.
"My motto is don't complain and wait for someone else, get in and have a go yourself!"
Trinity College student and keen golfer Anabarasan Mitchell was named Goulburn Mulwaree's Young Citizen of the Year.
Mitchell was nominated for his fundraising efforts in the community as well as high level of achievement in music and golf.
Addressing the crowd, Mitchell had some impressive words of wisdom for such a young man, one who hasn't let a brain shunt stop him from striving for higher honours.
"A few years ago I knew nobody but today I'm here sharing Australia Day with all you fine people," he said.
"Life is a gift and I don't intend to waste it. I make each day count and this award will power me on to reach for higher achievements.
"I want to thank the whole of the Goulburn community. You may ask what inspires this young man to try as hard as he does to succeed and the answer is easy, it's you, the community of Goulburn."
The Goulburn Show was awarded Goulburn Mulwaree's Community Event of the Year Award.
The Goulburn Show committee chose to plan for a full show in March 2021, despite the threat of cancellation and staged a safe and enjoyable three-day event.
It was one of the only full size country shows held in NSW in 2021.
