Since receiving the recognition earlier this year, Trinity Catholic College's Anbarasan Mitchell has felt an increased sense of self confidence and responsibility.
Mitchell revealed he had to sacrifice a golf tournament to attend the Australia Day ceremony.
"I felt very honoured and very proud after receiving the award," the upcoming golfer said when reflecting on his achievement.
"I feel more responsible now and my friends are really impressed.
"I had prepared a short speech as I did not want to bore people.
"At the end of the presentation, a lot of people congratulated me not only for the award, but also for my speech.
"I am happy my mother put me forward for this because it has been an honour.
"I was supposed to play in the NSW Amateur Golf Championships' Champion of Champions event held on the same day, but I pulled out of it.
"I chose to attend the Australia Day ceremony instead due to the importance of the occasion."
It's been a couple of months since then, and Mitchell said in that time, he was invited to join the Goulburn Mulwaree Youth Council.
"I will have a look at [joining council] when I get time because I'm currently in year 11 and have lots of study."
"In the meantime, I've been asking my friends about what council could do to make the town better."
COVID has prevented the Jason Day and Jordan Spieth lover from attending golf tournaments in recent time, but his handicap has improved to -2.
This is an important year in Mitchell's golfing career as he has to decide if he wants to go on to make the grade as a professional.
However, there's more to life for him than just the sport.
"I'm actually really talented at music," he said.
"I play the drums, piano and also sing.
"Besides from becoming a professional golfer, I also want to be a doctor, musician and actor."
Anbarasan Mitchell is currently seeking a sponsorship which would make things a lot financially easier for him.
