Jeremy Jye Anthony Chapman, 49, and Che Anthony Walker, 28, both of North Stradbroke Island, appeared in Brisbane District Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.

Crown prosecutor Cameron Wilkins said Chapman, Walker and the victim all knew each other and all resided on Stradbroke Island at the time of the incident on April 20, 2021.

"The (victim) was returning home to a plot of land when he tripped over and fell into the van of one of the defendants. He damaged the gazebo, there was then a fight which the (victim) started," Mr Wilkins said.

"(The victim) got on top on one of the defendants and the other came to his aid. Of course, that initial confrontation is excusable by law."

Walker was hit in the head with a piece of wood and Chapman used a machete to cause a serious arm injury, which led to the grievous bodily harm charge.

Walker also pleaded guilty to charges relating to a separate incident where he and three others got into another person's car and forced them to drive the group around.

Mr Wilkins said Walker did not instigate the incident but assaulted the victim by placing him in a headlock and gouging at his eyes while the others threatened to kill the victim.

Chapman's barrister said her client suffered an event in his childhood that had a "detrimental effect" on his education and ability to have adult relationships.

"Mr Chapman is a gifted artist and upon his release ... he has an offer of employment from an uncle who operates a furniture removalist business," the barrister said.

"He is somewhat confident in his success upon release of staying away from drugs."

Walker's barrister, Remy Kurz, said his client was attacked by the victim and left with a broken nose during the campsite incident.

"(Walker) required stitches after being headbutted three times. That is not a fight. He did not initiate it and he relied on Mr Chapman to intervene," Mr Kurz said.

Mr Kurz said Walker immediately offered to apologise to the victim in the separate incident involving the driver's assault and abduction.

Judge Tony Moynihan said Chapman and Walker had engaged in "very serious offending" after they were assaulted as result of a dispute over land.

"It was after (the assault) that ... the use of force by both of you whilst armed and in company was unnecessary and excessive."

Chapman was sentenced to three years in jail and immediately released on parole after spending the previous 19 months in custody.

Walker was sentenced to three-and-half in jail for both the campsite and driver incidents with parole after 12 months.

Walker's previous nine months in custody was counted towards time served.
