A section of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Rings will feature in one of the floats in this year’s Lilac Festival procession, accompanied by Goulburn torchbearers who carried the Olympic flame 12 months ago.
Siobhan Paton, winner of six gold medals at the 2000 Paralympic Games, will participate in the Olympic tribute. She will be driven in a vehicle behind the section of the Rings.
The Goulburn Post is supporting the float which will be a combination of resources from Kermac Engineering, who constructed the Olympic Rings on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a truck provided by CP Transport, couriers of the Goulburn Post.
An invitation is extended to torchrunners and to date Wendell Rosewarne and Ken Robson have indicated they will be participating.
Other torch runners were Graeme Northey, Fred Cooper, Tim Lawson, Theona Drakos, Michael O’Neill, Maureen Wharton, Jonathon Coogan, Lisa Liesche, Des Spackman, John McCormack, Des Rowley, Des Jeffrey, Peter Rowlands, Peter Briggs and Peter Mylonas.
Runners interested in participating should contact Goulburn Post manager John Thistleton. The float supporters will assemble in Cartright Square at 2.30pm on the day of the procession, Sunday, September 30.
