GLEN Innes locals are still happily donating to the construction of the hospital helipad which has been given the green light to be built. The ongoing battle to get the helipad built has seen locals contribute close to $100,000 towards the construction with the state government contributing $20,000 to cover the cost of developing a detailed design concept plan for the project. Last week the Glen Innes high school reunion committee, the ladies bowls and the CWA all contributed to the United Hospital Auxiliary fund for the construction of the helipad. High school reunion committee spokesperson Gay Pettit said they were more than happy to give $1000 dollars to the construction fund for the helipad. “We think it is a good cause for us all and the helipad may be used by members of our families and no doubt people we know will have to use it, so it is a good cause,” she said. The Glen Innes ladies bowls club gave a further $200 and the CWA donated bespoke items to the hospital and the auxiliary to use how they see fit. Hospital Auxiliary fund spokeswoman Jan Sharman said the money was appreciated and donations will still be accepted from the community in the future. “The helipad will happen, it just has to go through the processes now,” she said. “It won’t come in much under $200,000 so every dollar that we get will count.”
