The visibility of police walking up and down the streets of Goulburn and talking to the people has helped make significant gains in reducing crime, according to Police Superintendent Gary Worboys.

Guest speaker at Goulburn Evening View Club, Supt Warboys, the Local Area Commander was introduced by View's president Lyn Brown and gave an informative talk about his career, beginning with his training at the academy at Redfern.
At a local level, Supt Worboys believes that the drug problem has to be curbed and also crime involving stolen cars and homes being broken into.
He also outlined the massive costs to the community in controlling road trauma.
Although he feels the problems of street-based crime are ongoing, Supt Worboys believes in quality leadership and providing the best possible Police Service in the area, with law and order being a high priority.
He answered questions from View members and was then thanked by Bev Thompson who presented him with a small gift.
President Trish Brown welcomed 40 members to the meeting at the Southern Star Inn.
Judy Bayliss asked everyone to pause as she read out a prayer in respect and memory of the passing of the Queen Mother and also Constable Glen McEnallay.
After the View Club grace and pledge, an enjoyable meal was shared by all members.
Secretary Dianne Young read the minutes of the March meeting and the correspondence. A reminder to all members that the View Convention is to be held on September 17 in Canberra with a variety of activities organised over the three days of the Convention.
Jenny Sullivan read the treasurer's report and Phyllis Churchill gave the Delegates Report. Twelve members had attended the Zone Conference on March 16 in Goulburn and had shared a most enjoyable day capably organised by Sue Maas, Zone Counsellor for View.
Irene Bradley entertained everyone with some Irish jokes, her wonderful sense of humour is always appreciated. Irene also presented gifts to all ladies celebrating April birthdays.
Members were reminded to please bring in some groceries to the May meeting for the wheelbarrow full of groceries which is being raffled. This raffle will be drawn at the June meeting. Contact Trish if you are able to help sell raffle tickets in the Argyle Mall.
The meals were again discussed with a suggestion that we go back to alternate months of entree and main, then main and dessert. It was moved that this be discussed again at the May meeting when more members would be present. May meeting will be main course and dessert.
Raffles were won by Louise McClelland and Robyn Morphett.
Next meeting will be held on Tuesday May 14 with Dianne Reardon, Naturopath, as guest speaker.
