Next weekend the Goulburn Soldiers Club will stage Australia’s first ever ABBA Festival.
The event will be held at the club over two big days and will feature premium shows by three of Australia’s best tribute bands. The first show will be held in the club’s auditorium on the Friday, September 24, and will be called “Tribute to the girls of ABBA”.
It will be an interactive show and the audience will have the opportunity to get up and have a dance - in fact there’ll even be a dancing competition.
The Friday night show will also include 30-second karaoke and a competition for best dressed, which will be awarded to whoever has the best ABBA costume.
The first show is an all ages event and kicks off at 7pm. It will be a family orientated night of entertainment and admission will be free. On Saturday the festival will kick into overdrive!
The day will start 1pm with a matinee performance by FABBA - The Ultimate ABBA Tribute, which is a choreographed stage show.
Then at 7pm audiences will again be wowed when ABBA Lives, another premium show, lights up the auditorium stage.
Tickets to the shows cost $20 each or $30 for a festival pass, which allows admission to both.
The Goulburn ABBA Festival will be the first event of its type ever to be held in Australia and event coordinator Samantha Hickman hopes to the idea will catch on. The festival is being held in conjunction with the Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Ms Hickman said she hoped they could turn it into a tourist attraction.
“This being the first year it will be a smaller scale event but hopefully we can build on it from here,” she said.
“Nowhere else has an ABBA Festival and as a tourist attraction it will give people an incentive to visit Goulburn.”
Presale tickets are currently available from club reception and Ms Hickman is encouraging all locals to come down and join in the fun.
