Goulburn dominates

Goulburn men’s and women’s teams finished on to in the closely contested competitions.

Men’s and women’s teams travelled from Cooma, Cootamundra, Monaro, Murrumbidgee and to compete against the local teams.

On Friday night a two life knock-out mixed doubles event was held, with 22 men and 22 women striving to take out the title and prize money.

In the first life semi-finals Martina Peilli (Cooma) partnered Phil Sellick (Murrumbidgee), playing Nicole Smith (Monaro) and Des Kennedy (Cootamundra) with Martina and Phil progressing to the first life finals berth, which relegated Nicole and Des into the second life section of the draw.

The second life semi-final was a contest between Danielle Reilly (Goulburn) and Trevor Cowie (Murrumbidgee) against Theresa Hore and Steve Norris (Goulburn).

In this match-up Danielle and Trevor progressed to the second life final against the first life pairing of Nicole Smith and Des Kennedy.

Danielle and Trevor continued there winning run with a victory over Nicole and Des in a hard fought encounter to play Martina Peilli and Phil Sellick in the overall finals match.

The overall final was a great display of darts with the undefeated pair of Martine Peilli and Phil Sellick playing Danielle Reilly and Trevor Cowie. The first game went to a deciding third leg that went to Danielle and Trevor.

With the result going this way Martina and Phil were entitled to claim their second life and re-challenge, so the four players set off and repeat the overall final again.

In the replay Danielle and Trevor again managed to repeat a 2-1 win and claim the mixed doubles title for 2010.

Congratulations to all four finalists on a terrific final and a great display of darts, also not forgetting all the players who played in the extremely late mixed doubles event.
