A HEAVY downpour from the heavens on Thursday is likely to have dampened any hopes of cricket contests going ahead this weekend. But should the weather gods intervene and the soaked grounds dry up, an intriguing round of action awaits.

With the Christmas break fast approaching teams in all grades will be eager to snatch the points and head into the festive season on the front foot.
Only one fixture the first grade competition is scheduled to be played in Goulburn this weekend - although in all likelihood it will be a washout.
The first placed Coolavin will be out to cement their place at the top of the competition table when they host a hungry Bowral side at Kenmore on Saturday. Batsman Ben Staples has shown a never-ending appetite for runs in the season to date, amassing 360 at an average of 72, while his skipper Dane Stevenson has compiled 178 runs and snared a dozen wickets.
Tully Park are hot on the heels of their cross-town rivals and will look to keep the heat on Coolavin when they tackle Hilltop in the Highlands. Tully Park will look towards Oliver Sharwood, who’s clubbed 149 runs in just four innings, and their skipper Mik Webber, who’s led the way with 14 wickets.
In other cricket fixtures this weekend, Tully Gold will tackle the Young Guns at Seiffert, the Exchange do battle with the Coolavin Cowboys at Trinity and Billabong travel up the highway for a showdown with Marulan. In third grade the two Hibo outfits do battle, the RSL tackle Billabong and Tully.
Meanwhile the Country Plate finalists remain in the air.
WHILE Goulburn and Dungog sewed-up a spot in this summer’s SCG Country Plate final series in Orange, just who they’ll play remains to be seen.
In the Northern Riverina portion of the draw, long time rivals Temora and Yass were forced to reschedule their showdown after some of the most comprehensive summer rains on record.
The Northern Riverina heavyweights will reconvene in Temora on Sunday - weather permitting - with the winner advancing to the final series knockout at the end of the month.
Gilgandra and the Blue Mountains suffered the same fate as their inland cousins. Both outfits will meet this Sunday to decide the fourth and final vacant spot at the state-wide cricket knockout.
