It was one of three grass fires to flare up in Goulburn in the past two days.
A tractor was being used to slash long dry grass in a paddock opposite the Distribution Centre when the fire broke out.
Though the temperature at the time was relatively cool and the air felt moist, the stiff easterly breeze quickly fanned the fire toward the highway.
During the attempt to contain the blaze one of the RFS units became bogged. An older timber decked flat top tri-axle trailer parked in the grassed area caught fire.
This was eventually extinguished by Goulburn Fire and Rescue crews.
The fire was declared contained at 7.59pm, after it had consumed over four hectares of grassland and the trailer. RFS crews remained on the scene for some time ensuring the area was blacked out.
On Monday afternoon about four hectares of grassland was burnt out at Windellama - the apparent cause, a ride on lawnmower.
The fire started about 4.15pm and was declared out at 7.04pm thanks to the Windellama Rural Fire Brigade.
And yesterday at 10.26am crews from Towrang, Big Hill Goulburn Support and Marulan RFS were called to a grass fire on a property off Towrang Rd.
The Southern Zone RFS Control Centre at Yass said that it was suspected that this fire was caused by someone using an angle grinder.
The blaze burnt out about 1.2 hectares of grassland before it was contained. It was declared out at 1.37pm.
The RFS and Fire Rescue NSW continue to remind people that they should not undertake any activities, likely to cause fires, like slashing or mowing, driving through long grass or using angle grinders or welders unless they have adequate fire protection close at hand.
Grinders and welders should definitely not be used anywhere near combustible material
