Plane crashes into primary school playground

Two men walked away uninjured when a light plane crashed into a playground at Cape Clear Primary School, near Ballarat, about 1.30pm today.

No children were in the playground when the twin engine Cessna crash landed, clipping a powerline on the way down.

Cape Clear Primary principal Christian Brown said the men were very lucky.

"They hit the power line and they got out alive,” he said.

"The plane didn't break up, so they were very, very fortunate."

Mr Brown estimated both men were aged in their 60s and said one was from Western Australia.

"There were two pilots and they came over to the school after the crash and we gave them a bit of TLC," he said.

Mr Brown said both men had minor bumps and bruises.

He said the men had left Jamestown in South Australia this morning on way to Avalon Air Show in Geelong.

"They struck bad weather over Cape Clear and circled the school looking for somewhere to land," he said.
