Chairperson of the Symposium, Sally Wilton told the Post that this year’s symposium would be a great opportunity to learn more about the Lions Club’s role throughout Goulburn and Southern Districts.
Goulburn is part of District 201N2, which stretches across most of south-eastern NSW, from Liverpool in the north as far down as the Snowy Mountains and Monaro region in the south. It comprises 65 clubs.
“The symposium is a great opportunity to bring the community and Lions clubs together to work more closely in achieving each other’s outcomes,” she said.
“We can then go on and assist the community in ways that benefit them. It should be a fun day with great guest speakers, including Goulburn Mulwaree councillor Margaret O’Neill, herself a member of Lions for almost 40 years, and ambassador for Organ and Tissue Donation Rachael Martin.”
She also thanked the Goulburn community organisations that had donated their time and services, such as the Goulburn Workers Club.
“Their contributions to our cause have been amazing and shows how important that sense of ‘community’ is to them,” she said.
Mayor Geoff Kettle, himself a Lions member for more than 30 years, said he was pleased the symposium would be held in Goulburn.
“It’s fantastic to see this big group of Lions coming to Goulburn and helping the local economy,” he said.
“The Lions Club is an organisation that is particularly close to my heart, as I have been a member for well over 30 years. They help people in the community less fortunate than themselves, and just get out there and do it without fear or favour.”
Cr Margaret O’Neill also congratulated the Lions Club of Goulburn City on behalf of the Challenge Foundation for their contribution to the community.
“It’s great to see this symposium happening in our city,” she said.
“The whole thing is a great initiative and I just hope the community gets behind it and supports the Lions Club. The Lions Club raises money and sends dedicated members to events across the district, which I think is great.”
The symposium runs from 10am- 2.30pm this Saturday at the Goulburn Workers Club.
Registration is $15 per person, including lunch.
