We’re getting very close to the midway point of the campaign – by next Friday we’ll have passed halfway.
One quirky piece of entirely coincidental timing was that the Federal Budget, and the Coalition’s Budget reply were delivered this week.
In combination, the Budget and Budget Reply have provided a broad guide to the respective policies and platforms of the government and opposition. Not surprisingly, there wasn’t a lot of detail about funds specifically ear-marked for Hume… no news on the Barton Highway for instance.
Of course Hume residents (Humans) will benefit from/suffer from the measures taken by whoever wins the Federal Election, but you’d like to think it’s our turn to have a bit of funding come our way. It’s the curse of being a safe seat – the squeaky wheel gets the grease and a safe seat aint squeaky.
It may sound greedy to be saying “what about us” but when a lot of money is splashed out on marginal seats while Hume continues to have significant needs in the areas of infrastructure and amenities (I want a Performing Arts Centre in Goulburn, goshdarnnit), it seems perfectly fair to me. All politics is local. Perhaps we should keep a costed list of promises by all candidates that relate specifically to Hume.
Anyway, that’s for another day. We’ve had a stack of content to read and review this week so I’ll keep this short and sweet so you can get on with it.
We received press releases from three candidates (five from Angus, three from James and one from Adrian) and a bunch of stories and letters to the editor from candidates – see Hume Chronicles. James’ breakdown of the Federal budget is particularly detailed with regards to areas that affect Hume.
Surprisingly I got no press releases from Michael despite his party delivering the budget this week. He DID however start a new Facebook page and continues to tweet regularly (hey Angus… you’ve dropped off the Twitter perch. Nothing for weeks. Don’t tell me the Lib Party machine has shut down tweeting by candidates again?)
Michael and Angus also supplied detailed itineraries of their schedules (both looking pretty hectic). As always I can’t speak to what the other candidates have been up to without any information from them. Also, before I get the usual complaint from the usual suspect, the reason there are two Angus Taylor pics in the carousel above is because he sent in related pics to two of his press releases and the other candidates sent none. If they send them, I’ll include them.
Ok. Best and fairest this week… on the info I’ve been sent, Angus gets the chockies with a busy timetable plus a stack of press releases (one of which was a re-release).
So get to reading some of the info – especially the responses to the budget and budget reply.
