The equivalent of running three marathons per day, the ‘Bluff to Bondi’ challenge will raise money for The Kids’ Cancer Project, an Australian charity that funds vital research into childhood cancer, and will pass through Yass on Wednesday April 22 and Goulburn the following Day.
Through his foundation, Tim Blair Run for Kids, Tim has set a fundraising goal of $100,000 for the challenge.
Tim will donate $70,000 to The Kids’ Cancer Project, while the remainder will be taken back home to help the families of local kids battling illness.
The funds raised for The Kids’ Cancer Project will go towards a number of vital research programs – including a project that has found a way to make a cancer cell kill itself.
Led by Professor Peter Gunning at UNSW Medicine, the world breakthrough has proven successful against neuroblastoma, one of the most common childhood cancers, and will have implications for all types of cancers, both childhood and adult.
“After battling health issues of my own, I simply can’t imagine how hard it is for young kids to go through something as scary as cancer,” said Tim.
“The Kids’ Cancer Project is working with some amazing research projects that are making real progress in the search for a cure. It’s very exciting and whatever I can do to help that cause, I’m game. Shane and I know the pain we’ll feel on the run is nothing compared with the pain these families face.”
The challenge is an enormous undertaking that has been months in the making, with Tim and Shane
undertaking a significant training regime and working with a nutritionist on a strict eating plan to ensure they maintain sufficient energy levels during the endurance event.
