Member for Goulburn Pru Goward on Wednesday revealed the location of her soon-to-be occupied Auburn Street office – albeit six weeks after confirming she’d settled on the location.

As of late-August, the cabinet minister will call the shots from offices at 165 Auburn Street – next door to the National Australia Bank and Post Office, and downstairs from Hume Local Area Command headquarters.

Ms Goward’s arrival will mark the first time she’s worked as an MP out of the electorate’s largest city, despite holding office for seven-and-a-half years.

A restructure to the seat of Goulburn forced Ms Goward to move her office away from Bowral in time for next year’s state election.

The former Sex Discrimination Commissioner and ABC journalist admitted it was love at first sight.

“As soon as I saw it, we jumped at it,” she explained.

“It’s very exciting, being able to walk to work. I haven’t done that for 12 years.

“The office is very convenient for everyone and easy to find. It’s a lovely big, old office with rooms for constituent meetings.”

A spokesman for Ms Goward in early June confirmed the MP had settled on a new office and would soon sign lease papers.

The 40-day delay between picking new headquarters and announcing it to the world was due to a Legislative Assembly clerk’s reluctance to grant permission until costings were established.

That paperwork was finally signed, sealed and delivered this week.

Ms Goward insists the Auburn Street office costs less in terms of rent its Bowral predecessor. She refused disclose how much the rooms cost.

The new electoral office requires furnishing and security upgrades before an official opening next month.

Ms Goward says has no intentions of moving once settled.

Bunkering down for the long-term is out of her control, however.

Another term in parliament – and with it a lengthy stay in Auburn Street – depends on which boxes voters tick when headed to the polls on March 28, 2015.
