Greg Walsh, appearing for Brother William Peter Standen, told Goulburn Local Court today he expected the matter to be a short one, involving negotiation with the Department of Public Prosecutions.
“(But) I can indicate they are likely to be pleas of guilty,” he told Magistrate Geraldine Beattie.
Standen is charged with 11 counts of indecent assault on a male. Police charged him on August 18 at Sydney Airport. They alleged the assaults were committed against eight boys aged 12 while Standen was teaching at St Patrick’s between 1978 and 1980.
He was refused bail by police but granted conditional bail the following day during a short appearance at Waverley Local Court.
Standen sat neatly dressed for the five-minute appearance at Goulburn today.
Mr Walsh sought an adjournment until October 15 at Goulburn Local Court.
Magistrate Geraldine Beattie ordered a brief of evidence by October 8 and a reply to that document by October 15.
