3.30pm UPDATE: Inquiries are continuing into the events leading up to a plane crash-landing in bushland in southern NSW this morning, Thursday October 16. About 11.35am, a call was received from the pilot after his 1970s model plane experienced mechanical difficulties.

The pilot believed he was near Wombeyan Caves but search teams were able to track the plane to the edge of Morton National Park. The plane was found in a bushland clearing at Touga - just north of Nerriga - just before 1pm. The male pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, was airlifted from the scene for precautionary medical checks. He is believed to have minor injuries.
1.35pm UPDATE: It has been confirmed that the plane crashed in the Moreton National Park and not near Goulburn or Wombeyan Caves as first thought. The pilot has been rescued by helicopter..
12.40pm UPDATE: The pilot of the missing plane has reported to authorities that he is safe and well.
Police are still trying to find the plane, which is believed to be south of Goulburn.
11:55am: A Riverina-registered light plane has crash landed near Goulburn.
It is believed the pilot of the plane telephoned his base to tell of the landing as police mounted a major search amid reports the single-engine Cessna was missing after reporting engine failure.
The search is focusing on the Wombeyan Caves area.
It is believed the plane was headed to Bankstown. There was only one person on board.
Police are still searching for the crash site.
