After the three-year-old mare continued his excellent form, winning race three at the Goulburn Paceway on Monday, Hewitt says he’s ready to mix it with tougher competitors.
“I was tossing up whether I would take him down to Melbourne or not. But I definitely will now,” Hewitt confirmed after the race on Monday.
Hewitt now has six wins and two placings under his belt with the colt.
The 2200m race on Monday was the first time Spare Me Days had raced over a mile.
“He had plenty of time to settle and get into the race so I could put him into the race whenever I wanted,” Hewitt said.
“I expected for him to be up the front though. He’s no good by himself; he needs other horses around him. He’s kind of lazy like that.”
Hewitt has eyes on the $200,000 group 1 Victoria Derby later in the month as well as the $200,000 group 1 NSW Derby in March.
“He’s the best young one we’ve had for a long time,” Hewitt said.
