This year the Roadshow will feature comedians Harley Breen (MC for the night), Anne Edmonds(ABC’s Backseat Driver, It’s a Date, Wednesday Night Fever), British comedian Lloyd Langford, Nick Cody (‘Kinne’ (7Mate), Josh Thomas’ Please Like Me’, Melbourne International Comedy Festival Opening Night Allstar Supershow, (Channel 10)), and Nath Volvo (Ch 10’s The Project).
Comedian Nick Cody is excited about coming to Goulburn to perform.
‘I’m really looking forward to performing here, in fact the next venue will be Nowra, and I just realised I’ve been there, but I’ve never been to Goulburn,” he said.
Cody has performed with comedy greats such as Jim Jefferies and Anthony Jeselnik, and was even personally selected by American comedian Bill Burr to perform in the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival at the Sydney Opera House.
He has even travelled to Afghanistan to perform for our troops in the field.
“Performing in front of those guys was obviously pretty scary, but going to Afghanistan was especially frightening, as obviously I’ve never visited the country before, and because the soldiers aren’t allowed to drink you’re also performing in front of an entirely sober crowd!
"There isn’t much else to keep them entertained, so they really appreciated being able to have a laugh and relax.”
Now in its fourth year in Goulburn, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival roadshow has grown from a small, intimate affair to a fantastic night of entertainment for everyone.
“We first started off with a show at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery in 2012 with about 80 people in the audience,” Southern Tablelands Arts (STARTS) convenor Giselle Newbury told the Post.
“Over the past couple of years we’ve moved venues from the GRAG to the Lieder Theatre and then expanded into the Goulburn Workers Club in 2014, with a sold out show.
This year will be no exception, with over 400 tickets sold!
We certainly have a mix of comedians that come, for instance Felicity Ward (who performed in 2013) who has now gone on to become very famous around Australia and the U.S. “
The Comedy Festival Roadshow also works as a fundraiser for STARTS and supports locally based artists and their community initiatives.
“The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is quite important in terms of being a ‘launchpad’ for locally based comedians to make it big in Australia and eventually across the globe,” Ms Newbury said.
“We also help the local economy by employing a locally based theatre technician. This Wednesday night will also be the State of Origin, but you can always record it and watch it later.
I think it’s much more fun to go and see something in your community rather than sitting at home in front of the TV.
You can’t record live theatre. If you’re looking to bring a group of eight or more people to the show, contact us at STARTS and we can do you a special deal,” Ms Newbury said.
So get down to the Workers Club this Wednesday night from 8pm.
Tickets are priced at $39.60 for adults and $34.10 for students and concessions, and can be purchased by visiting www.starts.com.au.
