But he is focussed and positive about this weekend’s third round of the ASC and Australian FX-IPONE Superbike Championship (AFX) at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The 28-year-old from Goulburn finished with a third outright in the AFX after Mallala, by scoring a 3-4-2 result and in the ASC it was another third place overall with a 4-1-4 scorecard.

In terms of the championships, it sees Herfoss leading the AFX charge on 105- points with his former Honda teammate Wayne Maxwell just two points behind him, after he won the round with a 1-2-3 result.

In the ASC, Herfoss enjoys a six point margin over Maxwell, who also won the ASC round.

“Mallala was a bad round for me,” Herfoss told the Goulburn Post.

 “We should have probably capitalised a bit more at round two.

“However I made a couple of mistakes and probably didn’t go in the right direction with bike setup, which cost us a little bit.”

Herfoss also explained that while he may not have had the best of weekends at the 2.6km South Australian circuit, he was happy enough to walk away with the result that he managed to score.

“We didn’t have a perfect weekend at Mallala, but to come away with two fourths and a win in the ASC, that means I’m making my bad days a lot better than last year, he said.

“My bad days last year I was left lying in the gravel trap. I’m really happy to have a bad round and only lose four points in the championship.”

The Team Honda Racing pilot now turns his attention to this weekend’s third round of the championship, back on Sydney Motorsport Park, which saw Herfoss taking line honours in both rounds at the end of March.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend,” he said.

“We had a good round there at the start of the season.

We know we’re strong there over the course of the race distance, so that’s our strong point.”

Meanwhile at the start of June, Herfoss completed a two day test at Japan’s Suzuka International Racing Course with the Sakurai Honda team, as he prepares to take on the famous Suzuka-8-Hour race on July 26, which sees the race enter its 38th year.

Herfoss will potentially team up with fellow Australian, Jason O’Halloran who races in the British Superbike Championship.

The Suzuka-8-Hour has seen five of Australia’s best motorcycle races win this the race - Tony Hatton being the first in 1979, Daryl Beattie, Kevin Magee, 1987 World 500cc champion Wayne Gardner and five times World 500cc champion, Mick Doohan.
