Noack, 15, is a member ot the NSW Country girls team that will contest the age championships from July 4 to July 11.
NSW also has a Metro side competing at the championships.
The point guard on a basketball team is often one of the shorter players on the team but they have the important role of getting the ball from the backcourt into the attacking zone.
This requires agility and good ball control, particularly the ability to dribble the ball with either hand and quickly change direction to avoid their opposition.
When guarding an attacking player they are the quick agile player always looking to steal possession during the ball’s transition up the court.
Once in possession in the attacking half ot the court the point guard is responsible for getting the ball to the forwards who are in a suitable position to take a shot or make a layup inside the key.
The point guards are usually good distance shooters and if the opportunity presents itself can shoot accurately from outside the three point line.
This profile fits Noack pretty well and it is those skills that have earned her numerous caps for NSW since she was playing under 12s.
In the local Goulburn competition, Noack plays in the open women’s A grade team, Amegoes.
She is also a member of the Goulburn Under 16s representative team.
Since starting on representative basketball Noack has participated in the Under 12s Jamboree, Under 13s Allstars and NSW Basketball Intensive training program at Narrabeen, the Under 16s and under 16s Country Tour and the Australian Country Tour Team that took gold in New Zealand.
“I must thank my parents for the effort they have put into taking me to the training and to the competitions,” Noack said.
“I have also been fortunate to get assistance from the Val Finlay Memorial Foundation, Rotary Club of Goulburn Argyle, Alan and Lesley Whitten and Ed Teague who has given me lots of coaching tips and encouragement throughout my time playing basketball.
“Representing NSW has given me the opportunity to make lots of interstate friends as well as good friends from around the state who I have played with and against for several years.”
Noack has also been involved in the NSW Talented Athlete Program and the National Intensive Training Program scholarship two years in a row.
In January this year she captained her NSW Country Tour side in Albury at the Australian Junior Country Tour.
Her selection for NSW Country Team for the Australian championships has come after consistent performances in selection trials and through her high work ethic in the special training programs in which she has participated.
Noack’s on court performance has been watched by selectors at representative competitions throughout her basketball career and next week in Ulverstone presents another opportunity to impress the state and national selectors for further inclusion in representative teams.
