Despite starring in one of the most famous lip sync movie scenes of all time, actor and part-time couch-jumper Tom Cruise has proven to be no match for Jimmy Fallon in a lip sync battle on The Tonight Show.

The men went head-to-head on Fallon's talk show overnight with stirring renditions of various chart toppers including the Righteous Brothers' 1965 classic You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

The Top Gun star kicked off the battle with a slightly disturbing and out-of-sync performance of The Weeknd's Can't Feel my Face, completed by Cruise stroking his face and looking lustily into the studio cameras.

Fallon was up next with The Rolling Stones' 1983 hit Undercover Of The Night, complete with energetic air guitars and Mick Jagger-like struts.

Knowing he had to pull out the big guns, Cruise teased the audience and Fallon by hinting he would recreate his famous scene from his movie Risky Business, in which he danced around in his underpants to Old Time Rock and Roll.

As the band played the first few bars of the Bob Seger song and Cruise did his trademark slide across the stage, Fallon looked mortified.

"Please do not do that! That would not be fair! Please!" the comedian begged.

Instead, Cruise belted out Meat Loaf's Paradise By The Dashboard Light, which he dedicated to the girls of New Jersey. The two men then came together for the final song - You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

As the song reached its famous falsetto ending, the men serenaded a woman in the front row. Cruise held her hand and Fallon stroked her hair while her face alternated between fear and joy.

Cruise may be riding high on the promotional circuit for his latest Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation film, but Fallon won this lip sync battle.
