On Tuesday August 18, a 28-year-old man allegedly escaped from the correctional centre in Goulburn, and was last seen in the vicinity of the centre about 12.50pm.
Officers attached to The Hume Local Area Command commenced an investigation.
Following an extensive search effort, police received a call from a Carrick property owner at 10.38pm advising that he had heard his Nissan ute being driven away.
About 10.50pm, police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the stolen ute travelling North on the Hume Highway at Narellan and attempted to stop it. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued that continued for approximately 85km and 38 minutes.
Police deployed road spikes on the highway at Pheasant’s Nest, bringing the vehicle to a stop, but the driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, attempted to flee the scene only to be arrested a short distance away.
He was taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with escape lawful custody, illegal use of a motor vehicle, unregistered/uninsured, unlicensed driver, and police pursuit (Skye’s Law).
The man has been refused bail, and will appear at Goulburn Local Court today, Wednesday August 19.
