While it is indeed desirable to examine costs and effectiveness of communication policies, a publication which does not have room for community dissent is not ever going to be effective as a publication where all are entitled to respond.
I am dismayed that Mayor Geoff Kettle thinks that this extra expense to Council is a good idea, he usually stands up for the right of dissent, even though he may not agree with the dissenters.
Surely there is room to negotiate with the local publishers.
While not every citizen reads the Goulburn Post, those that are interested in their local community read it and it is the best source of local information we have got.
Community engagement will not be further increased by a glossy propaganda sheet where no one can respond.
Community engagement is a serious issue in Goulburn and it cannot be fixed with a public relations band aid.
