A celebration of all things comic book, the event will take over the Goulburn Civic Centre, and it’s hoped that attendees get into the spirit of the day in their best cosplay outfits.
Paying homage to their favourite comic, anime or sci-fi character, cosplayers design and create their own outfits, often with some outstanding results.
And like all the great conventions, there’ll even be a special guest. Jay Laga’aia, internationally known for his role as Captain Typho in the films Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, will be at the Goulburn event. Mr Laga’aia also played the role of Draco in the television series Xena: Warrior Princess. He appears by arrangement with Mark Morrissey and Associates.
However, the Goulburn Comic Con is not just for the kids.
There’ll be a variety of expert workshops, covering how to research for and write your own comic books, and even how to properly interpret the language of comic books. Designing your own mask and manga drawing classes will also be on offer.
‘Geek pop’ singer-songwriter Meri Amber will perform at the Comic Con. Her sound can be likened to a mesh of bright pop with a smidgen of ‘90s punk rock stirred in, topped off with a generous sprinkling of pop culture samples and computer game synths.
For the hardcore comic book fan, there’ll even be a great debate arguing the merits of which superhero did it better - Batman or Daredevil.
The Goulburn Comic Con runs at the Goulburn Civic Centre on Saturday November 7 from 11am-4pm. For more information, contact Young People’s Librarian Michelle Stuart on 4823 4435 or visit the Library’s front desk.
