“There’s always a feeling of nervousness about change, but when I explained that this was all about making us easier to do business with and service delivery, there were very few questions and they seemed quite relaxed,” Mr Bennett said.
He has defended doing the restructure ahead of the Fit for the Future reforms, saying it was essential Goulburn Mulwaree positioned itself as a leader in local government and delivered to the community “with an immense amount of pride.”
Mr Bennett acknowledged he had initiated the restructure and it didn’t emerge from a council resolution, as his first one had.
He described the changes as “relatively minor” and aimed at setting a clear direction.
“The focus is on ensuring Goulburn Mulwaree is easy to do business with,” he said.
“It is absolutely essential we respect and treat customers in an open way so that’s why we’ve undertaken the review.”
It comes nearly a year after his ‘big picture’ plan for organisational change, also aimed at achieving $3 million in annual savings.
It also follows a restructure of the four directorships into Corporate and Community Services, Planning and Development, Operations and Utilities.
