On Sunday a horse she trained won the Goulburn Cup. 

Just a Blur was first across the line with Matt Cahill in the saddle a clear first but the trainer and her training partner, son Paul Jones were unwilling to claim victory until correct weight was declared.

Joseph was so overjoyed at the prospect of finally achieving a Goulburn Cup winner that she grabbed the lead rope from strapper, John Bishop to bring the pair into the winners dismounting stall.

Twenty years ago Joseph thought a horse she trained had won the cup after crossing the line first but Island Spring was relegated to fourth place after a protest was upheld.

The Bombala grandmother was trying to conceal her excitement as she led the horse in from the track.

Was this her dream come true? 

To have finally won the Goulburn Cup adding it to the Wagga Wagga Town Plate, Bombala Cup, Queanbeyan, Gundagai and Canberra Cups.

The five year old mare came from back in the field to score a decisive 1-1/2 length win over Moral Victory in Sunday’s $100,000 race.

In the post race interview with Sky Thoroughbred Central, Cahill said that Just a Blur had possibly achieved beyond country race standard in winning the mile event at Goulburn in such a strong field.

“Everything went right today (Sunday).” Cahill said.

 “We tracked up behind the second favourite, we got out and when I gave her a click up at the top of the straight she really let down.

“That was a pretty strong race. She is definitely up to city class.”

Joseph hinted that the Bega Cup could be next but her son was looking to the city.

“Why not shoot for the stars and aim for the Villiers,” Jones told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“She would have to be a lightweight chance. She has probably gone beyond country races now and mum’s got a history at the Randwick Mile.”

Local trainer Danny Williams was all smiles too as he was successful with Ashjata ridden by French jockey Thomas Huet in the other big prize money event of the day, the $30,000 Emirates Park/ Guy Walter 1300 metre handicap for fillies and mares.

He also took second place in the race with Luxury ridden by Jason Collett.
