The action comes following the Goulburn Post’s Wednesday (January 13) report voicing resident concerns about water quality.
“... I turned the tap here at work [on Combermere St] and it was brown, brown like tea,” resident Paul Agius said at the time.
A seven-day program to flush all water lines began yesterday morning, with several teams tasked to the operation.
But acting director for utilities Marina Hollands denied the action was in response to any external pressure; rather, it was a matter of standard practice, she said.
“Council always responds to community requests, but we have fielded no more calls than what we normally receive. Social media pressure has had no impact on our response,” Ms Hollands said yesterday.
“We usually flush all city lines monthly, we are doing them all in the coming seven days.”
She said the water was tested and monitored on a regular basis, “and at present ... showing no signs of water discolouration or odour”.
Main water lines were flushed in August/September last year, she said. The city’s water reservoirs were completely cleared in November 2015.
Tests to be completed by the teams over the coming days will be the same as all standard tests.
Results will be published in the Department of Utilities’ January report.
As the operation is standard procedure, it will be undertaken at no extra cost.
Further, in a bid to flush areas of complaint, the council is encouraging all residents with issues with water to make contact as soon as possible with exact locations and details of the issue. To notify of water issues, call 4823 4444.
