We have no doubt that one of the main tourist draws to Goulburn could one day be the ability to cycle or walk along the rejuvenated Wollondilly Walking Trail, with various cafe stops along the way, and one of those could be the iconic old boathouse.
Whether or not this trail could also one day link up to a Goulburn to Crookwell Rail Trail remains to be seen.
But even a smaller cycling trail around the city would still provide a great family experience and the council is underway with the restoration of the Wollondilly walking track.
In the story, a council spokesperson confirmed that no money had been allocated to clearing and restoring the old boathouse to date.
"There are no funds allocated in upcoming budgets at this stage, and no plans for further development until we have been provided a direction by councillors," the council spokesperson said.
Well, perhaps the council could take our front page story as "providing a direction" from at least one councillor.
We are sure other councillors would also share Cr Banfield's vision to make Goulburn's waterways once again the "jewel in Goulburn's crown".
Let's get this great, positive idea happening, team!
New cycle laws
SPEAKING of cycling: as of yesterday, March 1, a raft of new laws came into effect in NSW that are intended to provide more safety for cyclists and motorists alike.
While some in the community might say that the new laws are over the top, it seems most cyclists the Goulburn Post talked to are embracing them.
As Goulburn Cycle Club coach Graeme Northey said: "There are irresponsible cyclists and there are irresponsible motorists. It is up to everyone to be responsible."
We think these new laws will provide much-needed incentive for cyclists and motorists to share the road safely.
Robin flies the coop
ON going to press [Tuesday evening], we have little detail to share about the sudden resignation of councillor Robin Saville.
By the time you read this, we'll very likely have updated the record following last night's council meeting.
A Code of Conduct breach involving Cr Saville was due to be heard in closed session last night.
But early yesterday morning came news of the councillor's sudden resignation, following by the wiping of all his details from the council website by early afternoon.
In the history of all councils everywhere, that has got to be the fastest action ever taken on anything. Ever.
We thank Robin on behalf of the community, especially his most recent initiative, the proposed adventure playground, a popular concept we hope soon finds another champion.
