The game was a tough encounter with and not a pretty one according to club president Joe Stephens.
“Involvement by the young players on the team was the key to the success,” Stephens said.
“The young guys showed plenty of commitment and were keen to get involved and look for opportunities.
“It was not bad for a first up outing as the club is without several of the players it came to rely on to make the main game decisions.
“The younger players have certainly shown they can step up.”
“With Mick Picker leading the way for the team Chris Hart at Fullback and Tyson Greenwood played well and made a real difference in bringing the ball forward.”
There were plenty of mistakes made by both sides and both teams failed to capitalise on these particularly in the first half. Goulburn had the halftime advantage with the score at 12 points to six.
The game could have gone either way right up till near the end but with about eight minutes to go Goulburn was awarded a penalty goal kick and Ben Picker put the ball over to bring the score to 24 - 16 and an eight point buffer that Tuggeranong was unable to reduce in the final minutes.
Try scorers for the Bulldogs were, Luke Gray, Chris Hart, Tyson Greenwood and Matt Joseph. Ben Picker kicked three conversions and the penalty goal.
The reserve grade Bulldogs with 10 points went down to Tuggeranong Bushrangers with 28 and the Under 18 Bulldogs also lost 16 to 22.
Next Saturday the GWC Bulldogs are at home again on Saturday against West Belconnen.
Game times are 11am for Under 18s, 12.20pm for Reserves and 2pm for First Grade at the Workers Arena.
